The goal of this summer school is to provide a global overview of some of the recent advances and perspectives in low-dimensional topology, with a a focus on the study of 3- and 4-dimensional manifolds, knot theory and on the mapping class groups of surfaces.
During the first two weeks, each of the courses will consist of a one-hour introductory lecture, two one-and-a-half-hour lectures, and a one-hour research-type presentation. These courses will offer overviews of the main themes structuring the current research in low-dimensional topology. They will be supplemented by a few short presentations (five times 20 minutes) given by volunteer participants, on recent results related to the courses.
In the third week, the closing conference of the ANR project AlMaRe will be held. Thus, the courses will focus more specifically on certain recent developments in the study of mapping class groups of surfaces, each course being divided into four one-hour sessions. Six one-hour research presentations will complete this overview of mapping class groups.
The courses will take place at the Institut Fourier. Participants whose preregistration has been validated will be accommodated in a nearby university residence.
